How to Move a Motorcycle Safely
Straps in the wrong place do more damage than the road ever will.
Loading
A proper ramp with a spotter beats manpower and improvisation every time. The bike goes into a wheel chock at the front so it stands on its own before any strapping begins — that's the difference between a controlled load and a dropped bike.
Securing the Bike
Soft ties around the handlebars or lower triple clamp protect finished surfaces, with tie-down straps pulling forward and down at four points. The suspension should be compressed — not bottomed out — so the bike can't bounce loose over road input. Never strap to plastics, levers or exhaust.
Non-Running and Damaged Bikes
A bike that rolls and steers can usually be loaded normally. If it doesn't roll, say so in advance so the crew brings the right equipment. Fuel should be low, and any leaks mentioned up front.
