How to Move a Pool Table

Never move a slate table intact. Here's what a proper pool table move involves.

Slate Tables Come Apart. Always.

A three-piece slate bed can weigh 600 to 900 pounds total, and the frame is not engineered to be carried loaded. Moving a slate table intact risks cracked slate, a racked frame and torn cloth — damage that costs more than the move.

The Disassembly Sequence

Pockets and rails come off first, then the cloth is carefully released if it's being preserved, then slate sections are unscrewed and lifted flat by multiple people. Each section is padded individually and secured so it cannot flex or shift in transit.

Reassembly at the New Location

The frame is set and squared, slate is reinstalled and the table structure is rebuilt. We set the table as level as the floor and equipment allow. Precision leveling to tournament tolerance and refelting are specialist tasks for a billiards mechanic and are not part of a standard move.

Room Prep

Confirm the room can accommodate the table plus cue clearance on all sides before moving day, and clear the route completely. Our pool table moving service covers disassembly, transport, placement and reassembly.
