How to Move Gym Equipment Through a Narrow Doorway
Measure the diagonal, not the width. That's usually where the job is won.
Measure the Right Things
A 32-inch doorway does not mean a 32-inch machine fits. Measure the machine's smallest transport dimension, then measure the doorway with the door removed and the diagonal clearance at the tightest turn. Ceiling height matters for anything upright, like a rack or a functional trainer.
Take the Door Off
Removing a door and its hinges typically buys one to two inches — often exactly the difference. It takes five minutes and prevents both frame damage and scratched equipment.
Disassemble to the Right Level
Uprights off the rack, weight stacks out of the machine, consoles off the treadmill, arms off the functional trainer. Bag hardware by component. The goal is the fewest pieces that will actually clear the opening, not full disassembly for its own sake.
When It Genuinely Won't Fit
Sometimes a machine cannot be brought into a room without damaging the machine or the house. A good crew tells you that before forcing it — and often has an alternative placement or an assembly-in-place approach. See our home gym equipment moving service for how we handle tight residential access.
